888 Co-operative Causeway was formed in 2018 with the simple goal of allowing a network of co-ops and other likeminded organisations and small businesses to share the costs of office space in the Melbourne CBD.
The name 888 was chosen to reflect a commitment to supporting the work-life balance of members (8 hours work, 8 hours rest, 8 hours recreation) and Causeway refers to our office location at Causeway House.

COVID and its impact on the Melbourne office space tested the resilience of the co-op. The trusted relationships the co-op had built with members and other stakeholders, including founding members such as BCCM and Co-op Bonds, were what made survival possible.
The co-op had to downsize but has slowly returned to growth in recent years.
As a small volunteer-run co-op in the flexible workspace industry, 888 demonstrates the wide application of co-ops by business model, scale and industry.
We proudly promote the co-op model through our public events and by being the only current co-op member of the co-working industry association, Flex Work Australia.
