Founded in Sydney’s Clarence Street in 1964 by a group of officers who saw the difficulty their fellow Police faced when accessing loans and other services, the bank started with paper records, a ledger book and a mission to help Police access finance.
From these humble beginnings, Police Bank is now a mutual supporting 75,000+ members right across the country, including multi-generational family members. We proudly serve a core set of members in the NSW, Tasmanian and Australian Federal Police Forces as well as many members in Border Force.
From our very first loan of 100 pounds, we have grown to offer a full suite of banking services – home loans, transaction and savings accounts, term deposits, personal loans and credit cards.
Our ethos has always remained the same: we are member-owned and exist for our members and their communities.
Supporting our members and community
What sets us apart is our personal service and connection with our members – we understand their needs and offer real help when it matters most. We pride ourselves on our service culture and ability to help our members navigate products and processes that can sometimes seem overwhelming.
Connection and understanding also means we are proud to step in during times of hardship. Being a cop is a tough and often dangerous job, and Police Bank stands with our members and their families through thick and thin.
We are a proudly Police and Border Force community organisation and the work we do within those communities is a crucial part of who we are – like our partnership with Police Legacy, the Police Associations, the NSW Police Council of Sport and various other sporting and community-based initiatives. We’re also long-time sponsors of the annual Police Legacy Remembrance Bike Ride, among many other events that honour and support our extended Police family.
If Police Bank was being established today, rather than in 1964, the big ask would be around housing affordability and we are proud of our partnership with HOPE Housing, a shared equity scheme helping essential workers – like Police – enter the housing market and live closer to their jobs. It’s initiatives like this that help frontline workers achieve their goals sooner.
