The Mary Valley Growers Co-operative, also known as the Mary Valley Country Harvest Co-operative, was established to support small growers and food producers in the Mary Valley region of Queensland. It provides a structure for farmers to work together, improving efficiency, reducing costs and creating stronger market opportunities.
Through the co-operative, members collaborate on sales, distribution and production. Produce is sold via an online e-market, local markets and deliveries across the Mary Valley, Gympie, Noosa and the wider Sunshine Coast. Weekly mixed produce boxes are distributed through neighbourhood buyers’ groups, while bulk orders supply local cafes, food co-operatives and retail outlets. All produce is seasonal and locally grown, often under Care Farmed principles.
Membership also enables access to shared infrastructure, training and bulk purchasing of farm inputs, as well as mentoring for new growers. The co-op has explored opportunities such as co-operative storage, joint accreditation schemes and even co-operative labour hire. These initiatives make small-scale farming more viable by pooling resources and knowledge.
At its heart, the Mary Valley Growers Co-operative demonstrates how collaboration among growers can create a resilient, community-based food system. By linking producers with local consumers and businesses, it strengthens the regional economy while supporting sustainable, small-scale agriculture.
